Trainer Misconceptions

Trainers don’t know anything about the human body…

Most trainers have a bachelors degree in exercise science or have extensive knowledge of the human body for them to understand exercises and function of each muscle.

Trainers just work me out…

A trainer is supposed to give the client a workout program and work with the client to develop that program. A workout program is like a workout schedule. Letting you know what to do each day.

Trainers are just a workout buddy…

You are more than welcome to workout WITH your trainer but they are more than that. They are a book of knowledge and a resource for you. Working out is one component of reaching your fitness goals. They should go over all aspects of fitness.

Trainers just pick things up and put things down…

Trainers are there to motivate and encourage you. Yes they are there to spot you and count the reps but also take the thinking away from you when it comes to your workouts.

Trainers want to see you in pain…

Yes pain is apart of working out but not to the point where it’s unbearable. Having a client get hurt, passing out or vomiting isn’t what a trainer should aim for. Vomiting might happen but the other two should not happen if a trainer is doing their job correctly.

All trainers have a six pack…

Not all people think having a six pack means you’re “in shape.” The same goes for trainers as well. Everyone is different, everyone has different goals.

Trainers just help with losing weight…

Fitness and wellness do not just pertain to weight lose. Trainers also help with function, flexibility, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and corrective exercise.

You can only workout with a trainer in person…

With the advances in technology, being able to workout with a trainer has become more assessable. Zoom and other video communication apps has helped a great deal. So a trainer in the USA can train a client in England.

Having a trainer is embarrassing…

Having a personal trainer shows that you are willing to invest in your health to better yourself. You come to a personal trainer for knowledge and guidance. While others may be stuck where they are, you’ll be improving and living a healthier life.

Trainers do nothing but workout all day…

Trainers definitely do not do that. Trainers know that your body needs rest to really grow and develop. Their workouts will be intense but rest is just as important as the workout. Plus, trainers are people too. They have a life outside of the gym.

Trainers don’t eat junk food…

There are some trainers that are extremely strict with their eating habits but 99% look forward to that cheat day or meal. Guarantee it.

Trainers are all about fitness…

Fitness and health is very important for a long life. But there’s more to life. Trainers are people too and face issues you may have as well. Everyone wants to enjoy life to the fullest.

You need to be in shape to work with a trainer…

False. A trainer is trained to work with people at different levels from beginner to advanced. A good trainer will challenge you but not overwork you.

All workouts with a trainer will be extremely difficult…

This all depends on your goal. Not all goals require intense workouts. Some people just want to be able to walk up the stairs pain-free. So doing burpees isn’t necessary to achieve that goal.

All trainers are the same…

Not all trainers are created equally. Just like there are good and bad doctors. There are good and bad trainers. Do your research to find the one that works to help you achieve your particular goal and fits your personality.
